Bio

I graduated in 1993 with a BFA - Printmaking emphasis and a K-12 teaching certificate, from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. For the last several years I've been learning about graphic design, the quirks of CSS, the magic of Photoshop and Painter, and doing my part to make the Web a beautiful place.

Although I'm always creating some sort of art, recently I've focused on a series of graphite mandala drawings, a series of mixed media collage paintings and upcycling thriftstore clocks.

My inspiration comes from everywhere; nature, culture, everyday objects, exploring new media and finding new ways to use common stuff. Current and future interests include becoming a better designer and always, more art.

Statement

The intent of my work is to draw the viewer in and give them a chance for some quiet contemplation. The paintings and drawings are usually small, made for intimate spaces. They are also reminders. Reminders of someone/something loved; that the world can be/will be a better place, and that they can be happier in it.

The paintings are where I can go a little wild with free-flowing color and impromptu composition. The drawings are a more technical response to the spontaneity of the paintings because this laborious process invites concentration and solitude and requires much more planning.

Mostly I want to make things that bring joy and that people love to live with.

Some Interesting Stuff

I cook almost all of our meals at home, from scratch. So that explains why I have a recipe section - I'm very interested in food, ingredients and kitchen efficiency. Check out some of my favorite recipes here.
